Wise and Kind Monks,
I was in the garden gathering flowers for mother to sell in her arrangements two weeks ago, when it began to rain. It felt like any other summer rain, but I soon noticed that the drops were like purest silver, but liquid. My skin absorbed them as quickly as they could land on me.
As soon as I noticed this, a man's voice began speaking to me inside my head. It said, "I am Tsai-Üs, Lord of the Sky, and you shall bear me a strong a handsome son."
At the end of that sentence, the voice went quiet, and the rain ended. I said nothing of the rain or the voice to anyone, and when I asked about Tsai-Üs no one had heard of him. I have heard nothing from the voice since.
I have missed my month's blood, and I fear that I am pregnant. I have never lain with a man.
My father is a kind man and a loving father, but he constantly worries about the perceptions of others. He is a prosperous watchmaker, and often admonishes me with sentences that begin, "Would anyone buy a watch from me if..." He would not approve of my becoming pregnant before I have found a man and married him. He will never believe the truth, either.
I am in desperate need of your wisdom, benevolent ones.
I loves me some ancient myth. Always a treasure trove of awkward situations and unstable relationships. Some cool characters I can see coming out of this letter:
Carissa, of course Tsai-Üs, Lord of the Sky Carissa's Father, the watchmaker A strong and handsome son Oh... It'd be wild if the silver rain were a character on its own.
Other potential characters: * The suitor favoured by dad * The suitor favoured by mom * The suitor willing to take a pregnant girl * The unsuitable suitor
